went there last night with some friends, and then just as they were leaving another friend called me and said "hey we're going to lanesplitter, wanna come?" so I say sure, I'll stay right here.
The racer 5 IPA was superb, and one friend got an obsidian stout which was pretty mean, but good. They have excellent taste in the tap and bottled beers, and their salad and pizza is always good.
There were no less than 4 fixed gear bikes and 1 old Beemer (R75 I think) parked out front when I came in. I felt like I had walked into Zeitgeist in SF. In fact, I've never been at an East Bay pub/bar with a more down and dirty punk SF vibe, and that's a very very good thing. huzzah for lanesplitter!

Sun, September 11, 2005 - 7:29 PMThat was probably Deschutes Obsidian Stout from Oregon...it's good stuff indeed. I am a major beer snob and frequent the Zeit, so I will have to check the place out...I just moved back to Oakland, not far down Telegraph.

Fri, September 30, 2005 - 2:55 PMYou just have to be careful to get there after the kids bedtime (and with the lanesplitter clientel, that's later than you think) the last two or three times I've gone there there have been little rug rats running around/ yelling/crying and generally preventing adult fun while there parents look on. -

Sat, October 1, 2005 - 9:22 PMHey, I met you at one of Siddhartha's parties, right? You do digital music from what I remember . . . good to see you on here, is Sid on Tribe or just on Forgetitster . . . ?

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Tue, October 4, 2005 - 9:28 PMI had a similar experience after having a very pleasant time there the first time I went. Until late at night it's more like a day care than a restaurant/pub. Nothing against 3 year-olds, I just don't want to drink with them.... -

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 8:57 AMGive the three-year-olds a chance. Some of them are great conversationalists, with very insightful things to say, especially after you've had several beers. -

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 3:44 PMhey, it could be worse - I'd rather talk to a 3 year old while I'm drinking than a frat guy at the Bear's Lair in Berkeley. 3 year olds have far more interests. :-)
Another shameless plug for my Tribe - join the Lanesplitter tribe or you're not officially a cool cat in Temescal and you'll have to take your Humvee-driving ass back through the CultureStop Tunnel back to Blackhawk . . . ;-) -

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland
Sun, October 30, 2005 - 7:23 PMI took some peeps to the lanesplitter from my circle, and they loved it. good microbeers (red rocket is my fav) and pizza slices late into the night. they could use a bit more bike parking out front though..... -

We rated the pizza a 4 on the 10 Scale. -

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland
Tue, November 1, 2005 - 2:09 PMThe Porter is fantastic.........
But the true beauty of Lanesplitters..........is the thin crust..................and the anchovies. They are of high quality and baked perfectly into the flavor of the pie. Never too much cheese...........and a tangy sauce
When I had my first bite I was confused a moment as to whether I was in Oakland or my old flat in Brooklyn.

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Sat, October 7, 2006 - 6:27 PMI was at Lanesplitter last night. The reason for it being so packed? Oakland Art Murmur and Critical Mass. We rolled up from Art Murmur with a crew of 5 of us, but recognized a whole lot of folks that were also at Murmur....
But really, Lanesplitter is usually pretty packed on weekends and at the dinner rush. It's got a good thing going - good cheap food, good cheap-ish beer, and a vibe that makes it comfy for East Bay families as well as the biker/punk crowd...

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Tue, October 17, 2006 - 11:03 AMI tried the Telegraph Lanesplitter exactly once. No flava, bare square walls. I hope it's gotten better --- maybe I'll give it another chance, later.
Give me the San Pablo Lanesplitter any day of the week! All my favorite hoppy beers, and jalapeno pineapple slices! HuzAAAA!
(Never seen a rug rat there, either) -

Re: Lanesplitter 48th/Telegraph N. Oakland was jumping last night!
Tue, January 30, 2007 - 8:21 PMAs far as I am concerned the Lanesplitter on San Pablo in Berkeley is WAY better! It has more of a bar feel. It may be funkier than the Oakland one, but the Oakland Lanesplitter is much more of a restaraunt and doesnt have as much character. The food and the beer are exactly the same at both locations. Check out the Berkeley Lanesplitter!!
