went there last night with some friends, and then just as they were leaving another friend called me and said "hey we're going to lanesplitter, wanna come?" so I say sure, I'll stay right here.

The racer 5 IPA was superb, and one friend got an obsidian stout which was pretty mean, but good. They have excellent taste in the tap and bottled beers, and their salad and pizza is always good.

There were no less than 4 fixed gear bikes and 1 old Beemer (R75 I think) parked out front when I came in. I felt like I had walked into Zeitgeist in SF. In fact, I've never been at an East Bay pub/bar with a more down and dirty punk SF vibe, and that's a very very good thing. huzzah for lanesplitter!

  • Ayup!...if you want more hardcore than Zeigist circa 2000 hardcore...take a short walk north on telegrahp to Bigums Silver Lion...on a good nite will find shirtless punks wrestling on the floor with Mr. Daniels puddlin around em...beer is shit there..drinks are strong...bartenders are hot tatted punk chicks....
  • I was at Lanesplitter last night. The reason for it being so packed? Oakland Art Murmur and Critical Mass. We rolled up from Art Murmur with a crew of 5 of us, but recognized a whole lot of folks that were also at Murmur....

But really, Lanesplitter is usually pretty packed on weekends and at the dinner rush. It's got a good thing going - good cheap food, good cheap-ish beer, and a vibe that makes it comfy for East Bay families as well as the biker/punk crowd...

  • As far as I am concerned the Lanesplitter on San Pablo in Berkeley is WAY better! It has more of a bar feel. It may be funkier than the Oakland one, but the Oakland Lanesplitter is much more of a restaraunt and doesnt have as much character. The food and the beer are exactly the same at both locations. Check out the Berkeley Lanesplitter!!
