starting off where that other thread was going, we should organize a costumed Walnut Creek crawl. So, what would both be fun, and would challenge the Iran/Contra Costa County suburbanites' sense of reality?
the obvious, tried and true, yet shocking to the bridge and tunnel crowd, you already have the cotume ideas:
Santa
Bunny
Burner
Pirate
Clown
the less obvious, more interesting to us because we haven't done it before, take some time to put the costume together, cause you always need more outfits for burning man ideas:
Barnyard
Alien
Historical Figure
Wizard of Oz
Leprachaun
add some more, attack those on the list, what have you.
The great thing about Walnut Creek is that there are a lot of no cover bars in a small area. The problem will be getting home once drunk. Anyone live out there and can handle a bunch of Drunken Costumed Freaks?

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Sat, January 21, 2006 - 2:57 PMthis belongs here, from the drinky poo thread:
No CARS!
Suburbia is alla 'bout cars. We would really put a toothpick in their eyeball if we did this all on foot/ bike/wheelchair/shopping cart/ stilts/- anything but a motorized contraption. Though a general exception could be one that shoots fire or random projectiles.
BART bewitching hour is an issue- Maybe we can do this on a friday night and then camp at the parking lot where the farmers market is on sat morning- that might be a flimsy enough excuse for WCPD to work- it's only 4 or 5 hours before the first farmers show up anyway.
But this is probably completely undoable and I will recieve the ire of many on this tribe.
What does a historical figure look like?
anyone wanna pick a date? is this in feb? or are we looking further out on the playa.....errr...... horizon?

Sun, January 22, 2006 - 2:27 AM> The problem will be getting home once drunk. ...
Well, there is BART. Not an ideal solution, since the last train home from the 'creek is at 12:17 AM. But if we started crawling about dark, by the time midnight rolled around we might feel like continuing the festivities closer to home. -

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Sun, January 22, 2006 - 11:59 AMThis might be a good Friday night event...get out by 8 and home(ish) by midnight(ish). -

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Mon, January 23, 2006 - 9:55 AMread this as a Good Friday event- like the friday before the celebration of Estrus....er....Easter. It's so confusing that the dang church appropriates pagan celebrations, which they then condemn as satanic.
After clarification last evening I understand it to be any friday will be OK, not just the one in March or april or whenever the easter bunny comes tthat to hang jesus. or something like that.
Maybe Feb 3? is that too early? Will that give everyone have enough time to make a costume and figure out how to get to BART before 12:13?

Mon, January 23, 2006 - 3:50 PMI vote for Clowns on a Saturday. Start during the day and stagger home/to BART by 11ish. I like day time events that morph into night-time events. And clowns can really mess with some heads...

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Mon, January 23, 2006 - 4:27 PMClowns? Yikes! No clowns for me. How about we go as a circus side show? We can all dress up as our favorite freak! We could have clowns, siamese twins, a ringmaster, etc. But I call dibs on the juggling bearded lady!!! -

Mon, January 23, 2006 - 9:51 PMso, what do you think about making the theme "Iran Conrta Costa" : Military, Arab, Reagan, Oliver North, chemical weapons, 80s, etc. too highbrow?
I'm leaning towards Pirate myself if this is too "clever" -

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Tue, January 24, 2006 - 1:54 PMI have a feeling most of us would be freaks in Walnut Creak just by showing up. A Saturday early-ish to not-too-lateish crawl sounds good to me. I've been looking for an excuse to get buzzed before 5:00.
"Iran Contra Costa" Ha! I could be Ollie North's secretary...what was her name...? -

Tue, January 24, 2006 - 4:37 PMAnother idea, for this or the future: I think it would be cool to do a surrealist bar crawl. Either people could go dressed as works of surrealist art, or perhaps just dressed in an exceedingly surreal manner. -

Thu, January 26, 2006 - 6:49 PMcan we do Feb 10th?... the Oakland pub crawl is on Feb 4th (can send deets later if anyone is interested) and I'm going to be out of town that whole weekend (so I'm missing the pub crawl anyways).
that's a friday... it's far enough away to bribe a responsible adult to watch kids... we can all get our xyz costumes together.
Did we decide what costumes?

Post the details here if that's cool.
2/10 might be OK. -

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Thu, January 26, 2006 - 11:56 PMWow, didn't realize a crawl could "fill up".
Totally makes sense though...things can get too unwieldy. -
-
Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Fri, January 27, 2006 - 3:43 PMThe one that Teiwaz does usually has designated drivers. So if the vehicles are full, then the crawl is too. At least that's the way it was last year.

With or without costumes.

Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Wed, February 8, 2006 - 9:39 PMOfficer Down will definitely be needed to keep the peace in the bowels of Walnut Creek. Yeah, he'll piss up yer bowels if you don't watch out.
I could be game for what Rachel said. So whassat...Fri 2/17 or Sat 2/18?
I'm inclined to do a Saturday--2/18 or 2/25 could really do up costumes good and proper--which is really the only way a WC Krawl will fly (the freak flag high) in my book.
I think it's rabbit season too. -
-
Re: Costumed Walnut Creek Crawl
Thu, February 9, 2006 - 8:38 AMfolks inclined to do some WCing this weekend should scout out some bars for the big costumed crawl.
Officer Down's parents: Pappa Down and Mamma Klown are coming into town next weekend. It might be fun to have them come along, but Momma Klown's hips were replaced recently and her body's rejecting them, so she may not be so mobile.

Wed, February 15, 2006 - 3:25 PMIs this dead?
Because I'm thinking of calling something for 2/25 in honor of the 1 year anniversary of Hunter S. Thompson's suicide (2/20/05).
So, if there's something on the 24th or 25th, I may have to come dressed as Hunter. But otherwise, I'll plan some other, dedicated event.
